CDT 9.2.1/Neon.3 RC2 posted

Marc Khouzam
Hi,

the CDT 9.2.1 RC2 build is now posted:
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/builds/neon/milestones/ur3-rc2

zipfile:
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/builds/neon/milestones/ur3-rc2/cdt-9.2.1rc2.zip

It is based on commit: 889bbf8f21938517de41945efdf92b93c6d63b2b

The Simultaneous release contribution will updated by https://git.eclipse.org/r/91513

RC3 will be on Monday, February 27th, 2017.

Thanks to Jonah, Marc-Andre and Nathan for the quick turn around to get everything resolved.

Enjoy

BR,
Marc

on macOS 10.12.3

- unpack eclipse-cpp-neon-R-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz (to be sure there is no CDT in)

- install new software from http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/builds/neon/milestones/ur3-rc2
        * CDT Main Features
        * CDT Optional Features

- only one license shown

- install http://gnuarmeclipse.sourceforge.net/updates-test

GNU ARM C/C++ Cross Compiler 2.3.1.201702221101

- ! the new C/C++ wizard does not appear in the list. was it removed from the distribution?

- create a c++ project using the stm32f4 template

- build the project with arm-none-eabi-gcc from GCC 6.2

- run a debug session with gdb 7.10 and qemu; breakpoints, suspend, terminate seem ok

as far as I can tell, the GNU ARM Eclipse plug-ins are ok; I did not run a debug session with GDB 7.12 on Linux.

I could not test the new C/C++ wizard, since it does not show; (btw, I already patched GNU ARM Eclipse plug-ins to avoid the wizard bug); the old wizard is ok.

Liviu

Re: CDT 9.2.1/Neon.3 RC2 posted

Marc-André Laperle

How did you try to open the "new C/C++ wizard" ? It is not in the context menus of Project Explorer for example. But if you go to the top menu, File, New, Project..., this should open the New Project dialog, then you should see "C/C++ Project" under C/C++. We should probably make it more visible.... but I'd rather fix the wizard page bug first before making it more prominent.

BTW, I do see the wizard if I install CDT ur3-rc2 on top of an Eclipse Platform Runtime Binary (no CDT) 4.6.3RC2

So

plus

that's not accurate, there was an old CDT in. I wanted to use eclipse-java-neon-2-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz, but I clicked the wrong link :-(

hopefully I'll do it right for RC3.

I tried to trace execution through the new wizard, but I reached a point where sources were not available and I preferred to find a workaround in my plug-ins, to create correct projects even if the last page, with the toolchain selection, was not entered.

Re: CDT 9.2.1/Neon.3 RC2 posted

Marc-André Laperle

Hmm, I'm not sure why it's not there for you. Maybe there's something in the error log? It could be some odd dependency issue caused from partially upgrading the eclipse-cpp package. I guess we'll know for sure once there is a new build of the package tomorrow that includes both Eclipse 4.6.3RC2 and CDT ur3-rc2.

indeed. it looks like there is something wrong, either in the Neon package or in the new RC2 that prevents upgrades.

Hello,

The Simultaneous release contribution will updated by https://git.eclipse.org/r/91513

Please be aware that I had forgotten to commit the contribution to the SimRel repo.

So in the SimRel update site still contains RC1 for CDT.  It will be fixed for RC3.

The C/C++ package will also contain RC1.

The CDT update site ans zip file are ok.

I'm sorry about this.

Thanks to Marc-Andre for noticing!

did you manage to upgrade exiting Neon and Neon.2 to RC2?

installing RC2 on non-CDT Eclipses was ok in my tests, but upgrading was problematic, only some plug-ins were installed.

Re: CDT 9.2.1/Neon.3 RC2 posted

Marc-André Laperle

I installed Eclipse for C/C++ Neon.2 and upgraded successfully to Eclipse for C/C++ Neon.3RC2 (CDT is still RC1 as mentioned before).

You need both update sites for the whole package to upgrade:

http://download.eclipse.org/staging/neon/

http://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/packages/neon/SR3-RC2

(Add both to "Install new software" then do Check for updates)

Otherwise, it might be missing dependencies.

If you use the Eclipse for C/C++ product/package, the package as a whole is assembled by the EPP project, not CDT. So you can follow epp-dev and every RC the links are posted. This is how I do the testing.

Maybe it would be a good idea to forward the announcement/links from epp-dev here once the package is ready every milestone. So that the CDT community could more easily participate in testing. Usually the packages are available a few days after the CDT update site though (today vs Tuesday).

Since I have a new arm-none-eabi-gdb 7.12 functional on macOS (yesterday ARM released an update for GCC 6), I decided for a rerun of RC2, using the URLs suggested.

My usual blinky debug session under QEMU was functional, however it is the second time I encounter a small glitch: in the first run the new Debug Console was not visible at all; the debug session seemed ok. I closed Eclipse and in the second run the Debug Console was visible and the debug session was also ok.

I don't know if the problem is caused by the too many plug-ins installed from different sources, but it might still be a small problem in the new console initialisations.

Regards,

Liviu

If you close the Debug view manually, it will not open automatically anymore.  You need to open it manually.

Maybe that is what happened?

nope. I doubt I had any chance to close it, the Eclipse was as fresh as it can be after completing installs and immediately running the first debug session.
