CDT 9.4.1

Doug Schaefer-3

Hey gang,

There are a number of reports of an NPE when building projects created by CMake. I’m surprised they work at all but I guess people are doing it.

I’d like to do a 9.4.1 release later today to address it an pick up any other fixes that have been pushed on the branch. Let me know if there’s something you’re working on that you’d like to get in and I can wait a bit.

Doug.

Re: CDT 9.4.1

Has 9.4.1 been released?

(Just asking so I know how to correctly set the "Target Milestone" for bugs whose fixes are committed on the 9.4 branch today.)

Regards,
Nate

Yes, it has. Sorry, been busy on other things and rushed it out. I didn't get a chance to update the feature version numbers but the timestamp in the qualifier should now read 2018.

I've added 9.4.1 to the versions and 9.4.2 to the milestones.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but where can CDT 9.4.1 be
downloaded, including the eclipse binary itself as part of the archive?

Re: CDT 9.4.1

Doug Schaefer-3
Not stupid at all. I've added it to the CDT 9.4 site so a Check for Updates will get it automatically. The zip file is below

Zip: http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/9.4/cdt-9.4.1/cdt-9.4.1.zip
Standalone debugger: http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/9.4/cdt-9.4.1/rcp

The CDT Docker Launch software needs the Docker plug-ins from Linux Tools.  Make sure that either the Eclipse Oxygen update site
or the Linux Tools update site is enabled in your available update sites (Window->Preferences->Install/Update->Available Software Sites)

Any chance you could tag the relevant revision as CDT_9_4_1 as well?

Thanks,

One other thing I am getting is that for some reason ccache is no longer find
the c++ compiler with this version and this version only for my project. I
haven't yet figured out why. I get an error that is something like:

ccache: error: Could not find compiler "c++" in PATH

If I revert my eclipse back, this error goes away.

Re: CDT 9.4.1

I know people who were using projects generated from CMake using the CDT 4 generator had similar issues with path.

Re: CDT 9.4.1

Do you know how they resolved this, because the path looks correct and even
tried setting environment variables to force c++ compiler location, but
ccache breaks nevertheless when launched from inside the Eclipse IDE (even
though the PATH is correct)?

No. It's an open issue. Just to confirm. Are you using cmake to generate this project too, or is it something else?

I am using cmake to generate the project (with the ccache can't c++ issue).

I meant to say, I am using cmake to generate the project (with the ccache
can't find c++ issue). This happens in both CDT 9.4.0 and CDT 9.4.1 (tested
both).

Re: CDT 9.4.1

Doug Schaefer-3
OK, then it must be the same thing. The bug is here: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=529121

The way CMake generates the CDT project files isn't really recommended but if the community that uses it wants to maintain the CDT to continue to work with those files, I'd be happy to apply patches for them.

Re: CDT 9.4.1

I don't know how easy of a patch it is to the CDT, but it would certainly be
very welcome since many developers use CMake generated CDT project files.

Just wanted to follow up on this question.

My motivation for asking is that a fix for bug 529299 [1] was committed
to the 9.4 branch on the day of the 9.4.1 release, and I'd like to know
whether the fix made it into the release.

Thanks,
Nate

Re: CDT 9.4.1

Doug Schaefer-3
The build is from Jan 13, so make that #11 which was a forced build to clear up test failures in #10.

https://ci.eclipse.org/cdt/job/cdt-9.4/10/changes

changeid: be9c1b833828d8bb01059579e32fa4c08c47ea4c

Last change was my NPE fix for CMake generated CDT 4 projects, which actually doesn't fix the problem anyway.

We can spin another one any time if you have a bug important enough to fix. We just need to remember to tag and stuff.

Thanks, I was wondering about that too (not important, but it's good to know where what I ship falls between the official releases). I still don't see a CDT_9_4_1 tag on it though?
