Stale bugs marked as won't fix

Thomas Singer
Hi,

Recently one of my reported bugs was marked as stalebug with CLOSE
WONTFIX status":

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=512629

Why this? It still is reproducible and can't be considered as "it's OK".

Re: Stale bugs marked as won't fix

Karsten Thoms-2
From time to time bugs that did not receive any activity are marked as stale bug. This bulk change says that if the bug is still relevant the stale flag should be removed . When after another period nothing happens they are closed with a bulk change.

They are marked as WONTFIX then since it is unlikely that they ever get fixed without a contribution, and existing committers/contributors have not the time to solve that specific bug.

You can change that by first removing the stale flag and second by helping to provide a solution or attract a contributor to fix it for you.

Re: Stale bugs marked as won't fix

Friends of Eclipse,

the PMC decided that bugs marked as stale will also be closed using
the "stalebug close" bot from the foundation.

Extract from https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse/PMC
---------
Dani: Discuss (again, see below) resolution for stale bugs

We want to ask the webmaster that stale bugs are directly closed.
ACTION ITEM for Lars
We will only auto/mass close existing stale bugs with notification turned off
-----------------

Reasons for this:
- User did mostly not react then the bug was marked as stale
- We want to avoid email bombs if we close stale bugs which did not
receive an update

Best regards, Lars

Re: Stale bugs marked as won't fix

Nikita Nemkin
There are only about 3000 open SWT bugs now, please don't close them automatically.
Enough of them are valid, but original reporters have obviously moved on.

How can I find the bugs that have been auto-closed?

Hi Nikita,

Just to add to Dani's comment: in case your are registered to the related bug list you can watch new bugs marked as stale and reopen them if they are still relevant.

Best regards, Lars

Not all stalebugs are closed, and the closed ones aren't always automatic.
At least there should be a way to tell human-approved wontfix from automatic wontfix that doesn't involve watching every bugzilla comment.
